Longing Dressed up as Discernment

Ever thought something was God… But it turned out to be your longing dressed up as discernment?

Unprocessed longing has a sneaky way of dressing up as discernment. You think it’s God. You think it’s peace. You think it’s a sign. But often, it’s just your oldest ache—trying to find resolution. Not because you’re foolish. But because the longing feels sacred. And it is. But when left untended, longing starts making decisions for you. You begin to mistake: comfort for clarity, chemistry for confirmation performance for significance, intensity for intimacy.

Suddenly, you’re calling something alignment—when really, it’s just your nervous system chasing an answer to one of these deeper questions:

  • Am I safe?

  • Am I secure?

  • Am I loved?

  • Am I wanted?

  • Am I known?

  • Am I valuable?

  • Do I have purpose?

  • Am I significant?

The goal isn’t to get rid of the longing. It’s to stay present with it— so it doesn’t hijack your discernment. When longing is witnessed, not rushed, bypassed, or over-interpreted, it begins to soften. And when your system feels safe enough to stay, clarity stops being something you chase. Because clarity isn’t something You chase—It’s something you face.
